Not going to lie, that is creepy! But I like the consept of using chakra threds as a way of hypnotizing someone! If possible...

Although going by canon this is less hypnosis and more getting killed and turned into a puppet, my headcanon for this is now: "genjutsu that gets the victim submit by making them believe they are a puppet, manipulated by a puppeteer" :3

Extremely late the party, but she seems to have a core like Sasori does. I don't think other human puppets besides him have those, so you could say that she's still alive. Though that would be replacing outright death with "I have no mouth and must scream", so...
