I think he just missed the subtle transformation plus corruption angle. It took me four tries to get it as well so I could understand the confusion.

The axew being spoken to was originally a human who pulled a Ninetales’ tail and was cursed for it. The curse turned him into a newly-hatched female axew, and is in the process of erasing his memories so that his mind is like any other axew. Additionally, Iris hypnotizes the axew to get him to fall asleep and stop crying over what’s happening to him.

It is preeeetty subtle, I didn't really catch it the first time either. That said, it's some nice writing. I can dig subtle.

Subtle is fun! I think it works really well with mc in general, so I love reading a nice, subtle induction that just pulls you in without you even realizing it... ;3
