Apart from just having a translation for my own enjoyment, I've been wondering what to do with it. Putting the whole thing on here is one option but with all the extra work involved and the "no reprints without authorization notice", that's not immediately in the cards. I was considering dumping it on a pastebin-like website and putting the links in Pixiv comments, but I haven’t found a site well-suited to this sort of thing. Thoughts?

It seems nice, i been trying to translate some pictures of a pool i uploaded but i don't know which ocr is more fiable, what ocr do you use? is a single one, or you use more to compare translations

I got turned onto the Copyfish extension, which seems reasonably legit. It ships screen snips off to ocr.space/ and does pretty well overall. A few caveats: quite often it will drop accents off characters like だ and ず, and it doesn't always nail the small Kana sizing. What it does do is both writing directions, though sometimes you gotta take one line at a time if it gets confused.

This is all assuming the characters are well defined. If they are not, or an outline font is used, or whatever else, it's back to looking up Kanji. Or a new trick I've learned, using Google Translate's handwriting recognition. Works well in a pinch, but there is stuff I won't do at present because it would just take too long not actually knowing the language.

After I've got the text out, I throw it at Google Translate. What I get back doesn't always make a great deal of sense, but I muddle through with context, breaking down the sentences, a few Japanese classes in college, and embellishment based on whatever meaning I can intuit. At some point I will have been better off spending my time actually studying, but oh well.





Fuck me that's a lot of tiny kanji in a weird, blocky font at relatively low resolution. Thankfully there was a much larger PNG version on Pixiv. I'll see what I can do.
