HypnoHub is restricted in certain regions now?!
Last night a friend of mine tried to access the site and got hit with “Access Restricted” page. Now let me be clear, he’s not banned or anything, it’s a page demanding ID/Age verification. I’ve never see this and I never heard of anyone seeing this. He lives in Kansas and apparently they passed a law requiring identification verification for adult sites. Yes it’s stupid but my friend is distraught because HH is like a second home to him. Now if there’s anything anyone can tell me about this like how to actually DO that verification or how to get around it please let me know.

This is a link to the message/block screen my friend saw: cdn.discordapp.com/attach...e0eaa551c3b79a06234e71c2c

Yeah, we have been chatting about this becoming a problem in its own thread for a while now.

The shocking (but very much positive) thing here is someone on staff got around to comply with the law before HHub was sued off the planet.

At least that is no longer a concern.

Sorry about your friend, though:( hope they can get around it.

The full text:

We regret to inform you that certain regions require us to verify your age before granting access to our cartoon website. While we are deeply committed to safety and compliance, mandating ID verification for every visit to a platform hosting fictional, animated content is not only impractical but also fundamentally misguided. The financial cost of implementing age verification per user is prohibitively high, rendering it impossible for us to sustain operations under these mandates.

Requiring age verification for fictional cartoon content is an overreach that fails to recognize the distinction between real-world adult material and artistic, animated works. These laws unfairly burden platforms like ours, which focus on creative, non-realistic content that poses no direct harm. They divert resources from enhancing user safety to complying with impractical regulations, driving traffic to less regulated sites with weaker safety measures.

Furthermore, these mandates jeopardize user privacy by requiring sensitive personal information, which could deter users from accessing legal, creative content while doing little to address actual risks. The safety of our community remains our top priority, and we believe a more effective solution is device-based identification that respects user privacy while allowing access to age-restricted content. We sincerely hope these overly broad laws are overturned soon, restoring access to our platform for all fans of animated art.

Until a sensible, privacy-respecting solution is implemented, we have made the difficult decision to disable access to our website in regions with these requirements. Please contact your local representatives to advocate for device-based verification solutions and the repeal of these impractical laws, ensuring a safer internet while preserving access to creative content.

Your best (and safest) bet is to get a VPN (though if you're privacy conscious, don't use a free one)

In case you need some suggestions for a VPN, as Detour suggests, I personally use Proton and have never had any real issues so far.

Still, region bans? I mean, can't say I'm surprised, but still... it's unfortunate indeed.

It is, but ultimately it's out of our control and the continued existence of the hub (and other sites operating under the same host) takes priority

What are concerned regions btw?

Better less than none, I 100% agree.

I believe it's just Kansas for now, though states like Texas are likely to follow

Just get yourself a VPN and you'll be fine

This is what finally prompted me to download a VPN. Kansas can be a nice enough place to live, but God do I hate the politicians.

Appearantly this isn't US exclusice??? I tried to check out a video and got the same blocking message, despite not being American. Note that (currently) this has only happened with 1 video, and other videos seem fine.

I checked with six different access points of my VPN in European countries, and so far, all of them have given me 0 issues (then again, it's not like Europe is a country xD).

Regarding video: maybe your adblock is the cause? Because videos have, well, sponsor video before playing, and some adblock could block the source all together?

1) I'm Asian (not east Asian mind you), so maybe there's a difference there
2) I tried it out on multipul browsers, inclding one with no adblock, and it still failed (it was post 238071 by lordixon)
