Made to Order: A Factory-themed Mind Control/Transformation Contest (FIRST PRIZE £300)
Introduction

Hi!

I'm running a contest with cash prizes to encourage the creation of works in the mind control/transformation genre with a theme that I think is underutilised.

The theme of the contest is "factories that perform involuntary mind control and transformation". Entries should fit this theme in some capacity.

The contest will run for five months, until the 10th July.

Important notes on the theme:

The nature of the transformation and/or mind control is entirely up to you, as is its purpose, extent, and any other descriptor you can think of. I encourage you to be as creative as possible. Obviously that transofrmation and/or mind control has taken place can also be implicit rather than explicitly stated when it comes to single images etc.

"Factory" does not have to mean "assembly line". Nor does it have to mean an entirely automated process, or a non-artisanal one. I encourage you to get creative - all that "factory" means for the purposes of this contest is that it's a place that performs an at least semi-routine process.

The same goes for "involuntary" - it has to be at least a little bit involuntary, but to what extent and what the victim thinks of what's been done to them at the end is all up to you. Obviously this can also be implicit when it comes to art etc, it doesn't have to be explicitly stated.

Entries do not have to include both mind control and transformation, though they certainly can include both; if you think you have an interesting idea for a piece that contains only one, go right ahead.

Additional important notes:

This might be an odd request, but I'd prefer it if you didn't look at what I've favourited on art sites and try and create something that you think I'll like. Personally I like to be surprised and to see what people come up with, and people trying to imitate what they think my preferences are ruins that.

All forms of creativity are welcome: art, writing, games, music, etc.

Fan works are welcome.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.

A Final Note

Please spread the news about this contest! I want to make sure as many people as possible hear about it, and as I'm not especially well-known in the community I need people to spread the word.

Hello there to you,Tvattr. As it happens, factory brainwashing is indeed a fun concept I already enjoy.

Two comments:
Six months (five?) is an awfully long time. People entering now will almost certainly have forgotten it by then. Cutting it down to a single month or two could help make it feel more like an 'event'. Something as game jams do that are time limited to a few days. Of course, it's up to you.

And question about 'transformation', since your post was made vague between mental and physical transformation. In what you consider, does transformation from free-willed -> slavegirl count? Or are you referring to physical transformation? Like from girl to robot?

Changed "six months" to "five months" to match the end date.

As for the length, the thing is I'm not especially well known and I worry that too short a deadline would restrict the number of entrants.

You can do mind control or transformation or both.

Oh, lovely, this will be fun! I don't plan on rummaging through your favorites, but, since we've discussed your preferences and fantasies before, I hope you won't be offended if a few of those elements are included.

That's fine, I don't object to that.

Ah, that was not quite the crux of the question. The issue is that 'transformation' is an incredibly broad term that can encompass very different things. For instance, hypnoing a subject to believe they're a maid could be considered as 'transformation' since it's mentally changing them to a new state.

Is it correct that for that part of the prompt you're intending to mean physical transformation?

Yes, but I don't see the relevance since mind control is included as well...

What were you thinking for length/pacing? I've been working long-term on a large project that DEFINITELY fits this genre, but it's probably going to turn out novella-size. If this were to happen, would it be better to submit a full chapter or a single scene?

Entries can be of any size, but obviously bear in mind the time limit for entries.

I'm working on my entry now! I've picked the Borg from Star Trek, to be the subject matter. With the contest subcategories being things like sci-fi, biomechanics, horror and stuff, the Borg seem like a perfect fit for the overall spirit of the whole thing. Changing people both physically and mentally into a horde of cybernetically-enhanced drones, on an industrial scale.
