E621 has deleted all of Ghostec's art on their site for being AI. They accuse process images like x.com/Gh0stec/status/1968650655465099449 of being faked due to inconsistences between sketch and final image.

I'm not taking a position on whether or not E621 is behaving correctly here. I just thought this community should be informed of it.

Because I was curious, I tried to go on e621 to establish a timeline but I was unsuccessful. Having never been to the site before, I assume I'm just bad at navigation.

Perhaps a false positive by their detection team. Of course there would be inconsistencies between sketch and final image, the whole thing about sketches is they can be changed.

Things don't happen spontaneously. I was trying to find information about possibly who was reporting and when and to what extent.

Think so too. His drawing style doesn't give me any AI vibes. And even so, sketches are meant to be just bases for lining and coloring; they are not engraved in stone.

Probably just someone who screamed "AI", and the moderation team didn't do a more thorough check before banning him.

According to what I was told by the e621 staff responsible for investigating possible AI use, they have had suspicions about ghostec for a while but only recently got around to making a final decision.

We have dozens of sketches from Ghostec prior to generated images even being a thing.

What is the argument even? I'm not the first person to point out sketches are first drafts and not meant to be reflective of a final product.

Also, they acknowledge the sketches exist.
So what, he Can draw but is using AI anyway?

Ridiculous.

We're reaching an awkward point where people are starting to not be able to tell the difference between AI and non-AI art so people are over-compensating by thinking that non-AI stuff is AI. It's a "guilty until proven innocent" stance that started from AI art creators in the past (and present) trying to hide their AI usage.

I personally don't like AI a whole lot myself but I feel like the outrage over it that drives people to act this way, where we're witch-hunting people who don't even use it, really needs to be dialed back. I'd rather not demonize people who like Ghostec who work hard on making art over unfounded suspicions.

Heck, even if Ghostec *is* using AI, I've seen AI accusations levied towards lots of long-time artists who don't deserve harassment. It's a worrying trend.

I swear that the mods and admins of e621 have been more and more eager to randomly ban artists and impose new, confusing rules as of late. Didn't they have a whole situation about what constitutes as "furry enough" a couple of years ago?

Regardless, there's little to no evidence of Ghostec using AI at all. What even brought them to that conclusion in the first place? If it was just the sketch, then that's a pretty weak reason to ban them.

Maybe the coloring? It's usually one of the strongest arguments when a witch hunt starts. Maybe the sketch report triggered the mods to investigate, and instead, they thought the culprit was the coloring.
