Unparented/unpooled posts
I've seen that some people like to leave posts unparented so they're not automatically hidden on the front page. The problem is there are a lot of posts that never get parented or pooled properly because the uploader forgot about it or can't be bothered to do it. I've had to fix a lot of these and I fear the situation is only going to get worse. Could we get a rule that posts must be parented properly? Also to help with this, the code could be tweaked so that parented posts aren't automatically hidden on the front page by default.

Parented posts becoming unlisted from the front page is the only reason why most people bother with the system, it's so someone uploading an entire comic in one go doesn't end up shoving two dozen other works off of the front page.

...but what about the people who, as I said, DON'T properly parent their posts and end up shoving more works off the front page regardless? Not only is this bad right now, it's going to be bad in the future when people have no idea when e.g. an image set has more images in it because nobody bothered to parent them

I miss the former manual hiding the old version of this page had xD. I never use de parent post because of that, I don't want to publish 3 pictures related, and the context being hidden because of the parent one.

90% of the site's problems can be solved if it has more support from the devs

Yeah, sadly it doesn't seem like SlayerDuck really cares... we have to be the guinea pigs for this half baked booru software that is borderline unusable without the userscript when we could be using something far more established like e621

The site's going to run into a problem where content is going to become lost soon. The page count only shows up to page 2,615 (making it look like the oldest posts are 5 years old) when in reality we have posts running back 13 years. These pages are only accessible if you know they exist and manually enter them in the search bar; and the website doesn't let you go beyond page 4762. The site currently has 4576 pages of posts, meaning we only have 186 pages left before the old content becomes inaccessible.

Right now, that's about four months away.

I think the main issue when it comes to supporting this site is that it's ultimately a niche kink site that almost certainly struggles to break even on the money invested in keeping it running.

I would like to see this fixed as well, but I think it's a bit rude to say SlayerDuck doesn't care. I don't know them at all, but I assume SlayerDuck is probably very busy with other things, and is probably prioritizing those for various reasons. I think the fact SlayerDuck still keeps this site around at all is a sign to me that they do care, at least a little. I don't see many reasons to keep the site up otherwise.

I'm not arguing the site doesn't have issues, but fixing them probably takes a lot more work than most people would assume, and it's possible this issue in particular isn't a big deal in the end. Once this occurs, will the posts be inaccessible when searching tags? If they can still be found through tags, it shouldn't be too big of a deal, at least in my opinion.

Yeah, what I'm saying is slayerduck runs a lot of other boorus and waifu2x. It seems to me that to him, Hypnohub is just a testing bed for his software. I haven't seen him actually contribute to the site or interact with the community in any way (apart from the site migration thread and some edits before like 2021). Shouldn't we have an admin who actually cares about the community?

Don't want to go on a tangent about this but it's been a borderline trope for the longest time for site admins to care about the site and not care about the people.

Sincere question: who owns and pays for the site? I can't recall.

SlayerDuck puts the site's ad revenue back into upkeep costs.

Last time he showed up, he explained the change in advertisers was to keep the site paying for itself.

And he strongly implied it is in his power to shut the place down in the event it cannot pay for itself.
So he is not obligated to keep it running at a loss due to contract reasons or what have you.

I cannot say how, or even if, this translates to ownership, but he definitely runs the show.

Yes, running the site does take some money which is why I haven't done it yet, but this conversation is getting sidetracked. Can we get that rule for proper parenting going, please?

On the topic of improving the code, you are preaching to the choir. Long unheard, I'm afraid.
As you recognized, we can't expect help. Unless the site is on the verge of shutting down, SlayerDuck is not inclined.

On the topic of the rules...if you think setting one is going to result in better practices by the average uploader, I have News for you and they are not good:/

Images are untagged, tags are copied from other sites or invented whole cloth without asking anyone(there is a genius who thinks to themselves "there is no hypnosis tag here! Let's add that" about twice a year), and people "source" images by linking the first place they found a preview jpeg of it. I mean, if they bother.

All of this is Against The Rules, but few people care. Things might be different if the rules were handy instead of scattered across obscure wiki pages, but they are not.

Consequences are rare and for good reason; there wouldn't be much of a site here if you banned the goofs, and other than that, since there are no "tiers" to it, all the staff can do is politely ask. You can already do that yourself, so do it.

On this kind of issue at least, I've gotten better results talking to uploaders politely than addressing the staff.

The staff is responsive and helpful when it comes to addressing bad behavior, bots, or requests by copyright holders. When it comes to addressing the many, Many problems with the site's infrastructure, the best we get is a noncommittal shrug.

I would be Very happy if your request was the one that came through to someone with any power to change anything, but I am not holding my breath.
