Hypnoplay & Music (+ Playlist)
(I looked through some older threads but didn't see anyone seriously exploring the topic for too long in any of them, at least not in a few years, so I figure what's one more thread going to hurt.)

Music/sound as a means of control comes up a fair amount, but the times I've seen it crop up in media never seem... quite right. A lot of the time it seems like it's just locking in on a single lyric, if not just completely off the vibe. I asked myself: what should be playing on mind-control headphone kits, over the sound system at the hypnosis brothels, on the drone processing factory floors? Then I made a playlist!

It starts with a long ambient piece; serene but slightly sinister and foreboding. Notice the ticking clock. (1)

The tempo picks up into a psychedelic state, gradually escalating to a feeling of being overwhelmed. Notice the stuttering, glitching and off-kilter rhythmic patterns. (2-4)

A brief pause, then some moody darkwave as the new basic principles are established. Notice the lyrics; love as infection and hivemind command, with some wardrobe suggestions. (5-8)

Segue into some electroclash, which is definitely a sister genre. Repetition and submission, sensual but stern with a pounding four-on-the-floor. (9-12)

This block is probably the closest to what I'm after. Everything from before, but now overtly sexual and often downright vulgar. Female and/or robot vocals a plus. (13-16)

Finishing out, dropping the BPM just a bit. Less about dancing and more about encouraging other... more forceful forms of repetitive movement. (17-20)

I feel like I can pick out the elements that speak to me in these; I think if someone were to set out to make music specifically for this purpose, these feel like the songs and genres and elements that would play nicely. I have about 40-odd other candidate songs I toyed with, too; they had something to them but either didn't quite fit or got benched to keep things manageable for a proof of concept. Tried to avoid repeat artists even if alternate monikers were allowed.

What genres come to mind for you? What songs, what sections of songs, what elements? What things would you want for different phases/parts of the experience? Do you have songs you think of this way? Do you have a playlist? If I made a collaborative playlist for this, would people pitch in? Was this interesting or useful in any way to you?
