Basically, in this case, basilisks have a petrification fetish... except they don't want their partner (not necessarily man) to die, so they tone it down to somnophilia... except the person sleeping is also hard as a log for a bit.
In all places that matter.

...Also, the source claims the monster is from Elden Ring - but I call bullshit. Not sure about Demon Souls, but Dark Souls I remember for sure!

thats the Elden Ring version of the Basilisk, the Status bar shows the Deathblight symbol, and Deathblight is Elden Ring exclusive.

False-eyed basilisks are also in Dark Souls, but the ones in Elden Ring are unique in that the false eyes are not naturally evolved to distract predators - they are a result of Godwyn's Life in Death curse spreading, which usually manifests in the form of false eyes.

I will say "the gas is mostly harmless in open spaces" is not even remotely true. To anyone playing souls games, you WILL DIE ON EXPOSURE. Within SECONDS.
