Would it be way too nerdy to point out that Kadabras are all male in the games? ... (or at least they were in Gen II)

I don't think so. And if that WAS true, they've most likely changed that since then.

Hmm, looking into it, it does seem I remembered things wrong. When I first got Pokemon Gold, I got a strategy guide with it, which has long since disintegrated. This guide naturally included instructions on breeding and, from the examples given, I took it that Kadabra/Alakazam were all male and had to be bred with the all female Jynx (if not a Ditto) to either produce a male Abra or female Smoochum.

However, according to the infallible source of info that is the internet, it looks like my 9 year old self was wrong. I thus withdraw my previous statement and offer these two words in way of an apology: My bad! :D
