Well, in the resized version, it has really bad artifacting... Is that simply due to the massive disparity in size between the resized and "larger" versions?

No, that's because of the transparent background. For some reason this Booru software does not enjoy transparent backgrounds in its resizing feature, so it artifacts the hell out of it.

It's a known bug, but one that's unlikely to be fixed.

if you view in original size and then double click, the artifacts go away. for this picture.
