Shes sad because she's clearly better but everyone on this sites shafted her for a mischaracterized corrupted version of her
I love good Aqua more than Darqua honestly. However, I can see for story reasosn why this needed to be done. It would help develop both her and Riku. Riku is essentially the Terra of Sora's group, and part of Aqua is the major regrets she has over what happened with Terra and Ven. How she was basically forced to kill them. It could be these negative feelings that allowed some darkness to seep into her heart, and allow Xehanort to take over her mind. Now she has to accept her past, and let it go, to return to the light, ot her own self-loathing would lead her to everlasting darkness. On top of that Riku could develop here too. He gave into darkness and was possessed by Ansem in the first game until Sora saved him. Now it's time for Riku to do the same for someone else who has fallen to darkness. Due to this, they have that in common, and together, they could both conquer the darkness that plagues them both.
I still am a bit upset it's happening at all, but I think it could be good if written well.

Exactly this.
I still think this darqua will be nothing like how it ends up though. Like I'm willing to put money down that all of darquas dialogue will be just be angst. Every syllable.

Well, I mean, it's Kingdom Hearts. So, that's a pretty safe bet.
