Saving it as a .png is a good choice. It prevents quality loss.
Since the originals are .jpegs, the end result is a lot larger than the original images put together. That's just a limitation of these old formats, and Hhub doesn't support anything else. What you Can do is use the filters built into .png's compression options to shave off a few MBs. It matters to people who browse on a phone connection or a poor internet plan and such.
I downloaded this one and managed to shave 5 MB off, quite a lot. Yours is so big since it was saved with no filters.
On this particular image set, you might want to force type 2 or type 5 filtering, that will almost always get the best results. But you don't have to take it so seriously. Using any filter, at all, is going to make a big difference.
