I have never seen people argue over whether a movie is meant to be satire, or is really just that stupid the way people argue about the Verhooven Troopers movie.
The book I can take or leave beyond a few cool ideas for how the aliens work. Heinlein has done much better, and while being more expressly political than that book, so I never got why that one is the one everyone remembers him for.
