The implications are okay most of the time, it's when they play with words like this that makes it harder ><

If I understood what the situation is, I'd try to come up with something that sounds better. But as it is, I don't understand what's being communicated in that part.

The therapist said "[I] like [you]" and tried to pass it off as talking about skiing, which sounds similar.

I think I'd translate by filling in the pronouns, and instead of "skier", translate that as "I bike. You?"

The challenge is the wordplay -- Literally you could try something like this:

"Please take a seat. I like..."

"Huh?"

"I meant, please take a seat, if you'd like."

"Is that all?"

[What the heck?]

It removes the Skiing pun, but only because that pun only happens to work in japanese. More word for word, I might do this:

"Excuse/Pardon me. I meant to ask if you're a skier."
