It's like mind control because the Radiance is the hive mind of the infected bugs!
Another examples would be Horde Prime's mind control devices that connects to the hive mind!
In this case the orange eyes/orange blobs are the devices!
I used the infection blobs as breast expansion for Hornet as an unique idea than just orange eyes!

Hollow Knight player. Can confirm. And it's not just a 'this is why we have zombie enemies' - you do explicitly encounter a miner bug several times and can see her slowly getting more corrupted/influenced over time until she finally attacks you and doesn't have any of herself left, really.

Just an Idea here but what if the Radiance gets dommed; resulting in complete control of the hive mind? Maybe the player, Hollow knight as a guy this time, manages to beat the radiance and instead of killing it, controls it. And changes the hue to black from the iconic orange?
From a lore pointof view, the knight couln't really do that. He's hollow.
Maybe the Pale King could do that? Or maybe Hornet?
