One of the bees implied to the protagonist that she could become a bee one day. Maybe if they don’t go completely mindless (in which case they end up in the Garden), then the Queen ‘embraces’ them (that’s the term the bee used, at least) and makes them part of the hive. I hope so, that pushes some serious buttons for me. <3
