Oh, empty eyes: my specialty. If I may, I'd offer some advice. Don't smudge across the entire eye. It tends to look... messy. And you'll sometimes smudge the borders into the iris (see her right eye). What you want to try to do is use a high-rate smudge to cover up the individual light spots, and a low-rate smudge to blend in the area with the rest. So, for example, use 100 rate to cover up light spots and mend borders, and use a ~50 rate to blend in smudged areas. A ~30 rate smudge can also be used for very slight blending.

If you must smudge the entire eye (maybe the iris has far too complicated lighting to leave it intact), try to make the eye a solid gradient. Dark at the top, light at the bottom. You can do this with the smudge tool, but it can be tough. The blend tool is also an option, but it may not work for all angles (it also requires you to make the irises a solid color without ruining the eye borders).

This is my very first time trying it out. I'm relieved to open up the comments and get such constructive support. I'll try empty eyes again on another one. Thanks for the tips! I'd really appreciate any others you might have. It seems rather tricky

As always, Mindwipe took the works right out of my mouth. Not altogether surprising, since we learned the same style.

In case you missed it, it's all about the smudge tool. :P
