Probably because Sam is worried sick for her friend, did not even consider mind control was a possibility, and now that she was told that's what it was, she is even more scared for them and herself than before?

ya i wanted it to be a bit darker sorry man, sometimes you need cold ruthless efficiency in assimilation story's. also no guesses who this future character will be?
