Elisio knows that all the Cures had darkness in their hearts so he tries to take advantage of that to mind controls them and make them join his side.
He starts in episode 27 although he only uses the mind control in 3 of them.
Aoi in episode 27.
Yukari in episode 29.
and finally Himari in episode 43.

Love and happiness are/produce a quantifiable substance which is also what gives sweets their taste.

see, if he *really* wanted to get her to join him, after bringing her sadness to the forefront like that he should have comforted her and given affection and been wholesome to make her *want* to trust him >:c
