Asbel really annoyed me, missing so many of Cheria's obvious flags. But then, Cheria; herself, was also fairly annoying but she had a lot of good moments too. I'd say she had a pretty balanced character over all. IMO, she's an ideal sub that could swing it both ways.

For me, with the exception of hubert, pascal, and, to a lesser extent, malik, the entire cast of graces was pretty much bland and forgettable, much like the rest of the game's story. It started off decent enough though. The childhood prologue, while a bit monotonous, provided a crucial reference point for the early stages of the game as Asbl dealt with the realities of adulthood and dealing with how things have changed since he left, especially in the people he used to know. That would have been a great angle to work throughout the rest of the game, but then the "Save the world" plot started to play in and Asbel basically became "RPG hero 101." I started on the after story which seemed to start to explore some of the more interesting ideas surrounding Sophie (which I won't mention due to spoilers) but I stopped early on due to me not being that invested in the characters to begin with and Xillia having just come out.

If anyone out there has completed Grace's afterstory, how do you think it compares to the main plot? without spoilers, of course as I intend to go back to it. Also sorry for the text wall. I've wanted to talk about this for a while and this seemed like a good opportunity to vent

It was alright. I think it was about as good; not better or worse.
Though, a new gameplay mechanic is unlocked there that carries over to your NG+ (a unique one for each character). Also, Lambda plays an important role, and is actually rather cool a character. You also get to see much more about Sophie's origin.

Somehow Asbel's VA did not cut to me. He sounded so bland.
And I did not exactly like the game's battle system. But overall it had its good points. The F arc in the ps3 version is totally worth it.

Richard is fully playable in L&L and is the greatest character in skits behind Malik. That is all you need to know. Also, Mask of Barona.

I rather liked Asbel. While I agree he is rather bland compared to some of the other characters, I have no problem with the archetype they were going for. He literally poured his entire being into being a knight, so obviously he would have stunted his social skills to the point he can't recognize social cues.

That all makes sense. I didn't really hate Asbel. I was definitely moved by his character at some points in the game. He has a kind heart but it gets the better of him so much and caused him to make some of the worse decisions. It all came together for him in the end and it made everything a lot more awesome.

Just popping in to comment.

XD

I haven't played Graces, but I have it. My fiancee has played, and beaten it. And, to be perfectly honest, listening to it just grated on my nerves. The voice actors are so irritating, their voices anyway. And the characters were largely, as has already been said, bland. It's almost as if someone who didn't fully know what a story was, was trying to write it.

Symphonia [even though I hate that game] is so much better. But I still say Abyss is my fave.

But yeah. My two cents. I'm out of here now >> XD
