Not really mind control but at least some kinda mind altercation/breaking. Enough to completely rewrite her personality which I guess is relevant enough for this site. It's not much different from something like bimboification or stepfordisation where the person isn't being directly controlled but their personality and sense of identity is molded to be more passive.

There isn't a prequel comic so we won't know for sure what happened to Asuka but her personality change is so out of character and Shinji mentions an angel corrupting her so the artist probably intended some kinda mind altercation to have occured. Again there's no way to tell for sure but it seems a bit pedantic to question the legitimacy when it's pretty clear from the dialogue alone.
