You can link posts as parent and child. So the child post will have a link to the parent in place of to a pool, and then the parent post will have a list of links for every child post by post number. Generally the rule is to do pools only for 3 or more in sequence, and just using parent/child for a pair of posts or posts that are related but non-sequential (such as variants).

Didn't know that! I just assumed any chronological stories were connected this way and then variants were connected as parents. I'll update it accordingly!
