How does being half genie even work? I mean, how would a mix of the two creatures come into being? It can't be biological... right?
If it ain't obvious, I know almost zilch about this character or her game series.

It's been awhile plus I still need to play games 4 and 5 @.@
But basically her mom was a genie and her dad was human so she's half. I think it's probably along the lines of Sabrina Spellmen type rules with her being half witch in that series.

Yes. It is biological. Her mother was a full genie and her father was an ordinary human. Shantae never knew either of them though and grew up with her adoptive uncle. In the lore of Shantae, the genies were always protectors of Sequin Land (the world that the series takes place in) but they were always targets for being enslaved and/or forced into doing others bidding. So all the genies retreated to their own realm which only full genies can access. Ever since the 5th game, the fans got the answer to something they wanted to know for a while: Are there other half-genies like her? And the answer is yes. They all had mothers who were genies, too. Not as powerful as their mothers but still capable of some amazing magic that differs from each other in some way. One of the many reasons I like the games is because of the lore and worldbuilding. :D
1
