Anyway context: the general show is about an isekai (sorta parody) where an entire classroom gets reincarnated into a fantasy realm with our protagonist awakening as a spider monster. However most of the class are humans and a couple even are royalty.
But tbh you're really watching the show for the hilarious shit our spider girl gets herself into, she's absolutely carrying the show.
Anyway, here is one of the reincarnated students, Katia (who was a guy in her previous life so transgender tag maybe?), who has been brainwashed by Hugo, a former classmate who wants to take over the country and has used several spells to brainwash Katia and a few other characters to attack Shun (yet another reincarnation), this fantasy world's assigned "Hero".
TBH even though it seems brainwashing is key in this story, it's an overall letdown in how they show it. Like all we see is Hugo holding up his hand and it starts to glow before cutting away. Then we can only really tell a character is brainwashed because of Shun's appraisal skill that lets him see their status as "brainwashed" which we see plastered across this screen. Still I figured people wouldn't mind seeing it.

It bugs me that they translated 催眠 as "sleep".
what would be a better translation?

google translate defaults to "hypnosis" for 催眠 which is funny if they really got that wrong in this way
That is kinda funny but in defense of the show, it could be because later in this fight Katia declares that she is fully awake when Shun pleads with her to snap out of it.

Like butterball said, it literally translates to "hypnosis." Since the other words are "charmed" and "brainwashed," it would have made sense to translate it as "hypnotized."
