This took on a whole different context when I realized she was being erased right then and there, not just pacified for the auction.

Makes you wonder if her mind being erased slowly would have enhanced the image, rather than frying her brain immediately.

It's got it's appeal like this. The merciless countdown, her final panic being cut off like nothing, the real casual way the auctioneer announces that she's about to become a mindless piece of meat, it's good shit. I just wouldn't erase her at all, though.

You make a good point. Maybe the image is fine the way it is. I just usually prefer a slow erasure/brain drain when it comes to stuff like this.

I think the moral quandary a lot of us are having can be described as follows: we're into the totality of erasure as a concept, but not the permanence portrayed here.

But the long-term isn't something we have to think about in fiction, so why not admit we find it at least kinda hot?
