I mean, her daughter Satele was able to stop a lightsaber with her hand imbued with the Force, so maybe Bastila can do the same :P

Fair points but I'm guessing its a prop one and or she can use the force.
I mean how do the lightsabers no when to stop growing has to be the force XD

You have to remember, Lightsabers may be weapons of a Jedi/Sith, but they're still technology. It's commonly theorized that the plasma of the Lightsaber's blade is contained in a sort of small magnetic field that controls the length and retraction and extension of the blade to keep the energy inside, yet still allow physical matter to pass through it to be cut. This can also explain why Lightsabers are commonly used to reflect laser blasts.

Further, for the lightsaber to have more than one length setting, I believe it has to be a dual-phase saber. That said, I can think of several ways she can be reasonably safe while doing this:

- Cortosis-weave leggings (Specifically of the type used on swords and armor in KOTOR). For that matter, a cortosis weave cybernetic implant for her entire skin may work as well...
- When using the Force, Jedi HAVE shown the ability to basically negate damage from energy attacks sent at them, be they blasters or lightsabers. This does seem to take a lot of concentration however, otherwise literally any force user who *could* use it, would *always* use it.
- There ARE practice sabers. If she has one that just happens to be colored the same as her personal lightsaber, the worst she'd be in for would be a mild contact zap.
