I'll be honest, there's really 0 MC potential with Metroids. They have only one function: to suck the very life force out of their victims and leave them as a grey husk that disintegrates upon touch. The fact that they latch on to people's heads in no way means they control minds. Obviously, you can make anything into MC in fanart, but there is absolutely nothing in Metroid canon that gives Metroids MC potential.

Now, Mother Brain, on the other hand, was able to control many lesser creatures with her brainwaves. She was also able to control the Metroids themselves. And as of Metroid Fusion, Samus shares some of her genetic makeup with Metroids. Could Samus be controlled by Mother Brain (or MB) now? I'm not saying "definitely yes", but I AM saying it would make for great fanart with at least a basis in canon.

I love me some Metroid. Maybe even more than I love The Legend of Zelda.

This also feels like a good time to mention once again that Dark Samus could actually control those who were corrupted by Phazon in Metroid Prime: Corruption. Though it may be understandable that we haven't seen much MC art of that, since Phazon corruption is not a very pretty thing.

^ I'll grant the jet boots are awkward from an aesthetic perspective, but they are nice in terms of making ZSS into something other than "that annoying thing that you have to suffer through for using the Zero Beam."

Granted, Samus herself sucked in Brawl too. Really awkward in Smash Bros when a character you love just isn't any good. Sakurai did seem to imply they were fixing her in U/3DS as well as ZSS.
