An explaination for the non-fans of the show: In a recent episode it was revealed that when Rainbow Dash is flying she reflexively takes in everything going on around her whether on the ground or in the air.

The good news is that this gives her total situational awareness.

The bad news is that she can only consciously recall the individual observations when they either pose an immediate danger or she actively tries to focus on a memory. As the episode demonstrated, this leaves her vulnerable to subliminal messages.. and pink pranksters! ;)
