To be fair Sapphire and May are pretty much the same character, Sapphire just has the whole jungle thing going on :D

Eh, they do have the same base design but calling them the same character doesn't feel accurate to me. I mean, with how Ruby is in the manga, nobody would say he and Brenden are the same.

@Oshachu7755To be fair, all the characters are different in each version. May in the games is different to May in the anime, so say that is the same person isn't wrong.Same thing for characters like Blue/Leaf

I mean, this is clearly originating from the same base character. Nobody can deny that. Each canon just takes said base and steers it in whichever direction it wants until they've created their own distinct counterparts out from what's basically a mute player-avatar. Same character but different counterparts, that's the clear description here.

If Sapphire, who's based on May, can be considered the same character, then what about Ash. Is he Red? I don't see people calling Ash and Red the same despite the fact that they're both based on him. Pokmon Adventures Red is considered Red, so Ash should be Red as well, right? Red doesn't look like a word anymore.
