Story/background by artist: Revali scoffed at the idea that his first mission as a champion was to rid the valley of monsters that might harm travelers heading to and from the Rito Village. Surely there were others that could deal with the occasional Bokoblin or Moblin pack. Still, he had nothing else planned for the day, and it seemed an easy enough task. After completing it, he decided that he would spend the afternoon hunting more worthy enemies farther away from the village...

The Hypno Like is part of the Like Like family, the main differences between it and its cousins are how it catches prey, which prey it chooses to target, what it does with its prey, and its high level of intelligence. The Hypno Like is sentient and picky, rarely showing its true power unless a highly desirable catch wanders too close to it. Its true power being the ability to cast a hypnotic spell that subdues its prey indefinitely. Unlike other Like Likes, the Hypno Like doesn't need to catch prey to sustain themselves as they are herbivores.

When a Hypno Like snares itself a victim, it quickly drains them of their energy and their will to resist its spell in the process. After the victim is subdued, the Hypno Like proceeds to reprogram its victim's mind to better suit its purposes. The typical Hypno Like will catch someone strong and turn them into its personal bodyguard, or use them to lure in other potential targets. The rarer and more exotic varieties sometimes keep individuals for personal pleasure. The feeling of having complete power over someone strong appeals to these few.

Revali made the mistake of approaching a Hypno Like and attempting to defeat it like any other enemy. His foe, underestimated, quickly placed the Rito under its spell and ensnared him in its grip. The Rito Champion's initial struggles proved fruitless, fading to nothing over the course of several minutes. The Hypno Like, unable to believe its luck, quickly took its new servant deep underground where the Rito would surely never look.

Of course, it had no use for armor, a bow, or arrows, so it absorbed those. The scarf could stay. The Hypno Like thought it looked quite charming on its captive. Revali would be staying with it for quite a while, at least until there was no hope of ever undoing its hypnotic spell.
