Even regularly refurbished Drones can suffer what is referred to as a Free Will Error. Forced Drone conversion has a high success rate but even so most units will glitch and attempt to enter a state of noncompliance. In these instances, the Drones rubber layer is internally electrified in an attempt to subdue the unit and force a system fail, allowing for Drone collection and maintenance.
These Drone have not accidentally Free Willed but safeguards have be disabled and the suppression charges triggered to test the fail safes.
