She got used as the host of a dream eater samsara that trapped the player character to endlessly repeat a festival day. They were in a race against the clock to break the samsara as their sickly friend who got caught up in it would die due to the strain being put on her mind.

Don't think there's any serious mind control in Genshin storyline yet. I expect there will be some in the future since the world setting is pretty open to that kind of a possibility.

Nilou has a pretty timid personality so I think that's probably why she's getting the hypno treatment by fan artists.
