Which symbol? The six pointed star? It could be a Star of David or Kagome Crest, depending on your perspective. In the context of the game, it's a brainwashing seal.

If you're asking about the original intent of the game, I have to say it's not Western. I'm very certain it was a Kagome Crest. This game was originally created by xenon_3134, a Japanese MC creator, and it was made for a Japanese market. In SRPG Studio, this game's engine, the Kagome Crest is used as a general-purpose symbol and seal for magic.

Please rest assured: I have no nefarious intentions, and I mean you no harm. Now that the game's ownership has passed to me, I only want to support both English and Japanese releases.

It's pretty unfortunate, but Japanese creators tend to be unaware of the Western use of the Magen David (or if they are aware of it, only think of it as the flag of Israel) and use hexagrams as a generic "magic symbol". It would be nice if the new developer changed it to a different symbol, but if you're not up to getting an artist for that, Oh Well I Guess.

What japanese tend to use is the Kagome Crest or the seal of solomon. Both looks really similar and since the Solomon seal is related to alchemy is used as a generic magic circle.

Although both, Kagome Crest and Seal of solomon doesn't have a circle on the center. I think since the author is japanese, the use of the David symbol was something unfortunate. Just like shows like Evangelion, Western religions are not very popular there, and they just use these symbols because "looks cool", just like the western using stuff like the Ying/Yang or some Budist symbols.

I'm sure the original artist had no bad intentions, it was just a cultural minunderstanding and lack of awareness about western cultural symbols.
