"Vegan jewelry" works for me. Instantly puts me in mind of a certain kind of pretentious person who doesn't know the terms they're using, just that they're trendy. Makes it much easier to not feel bad for the subject.

Well vegan in this case means no pearls, leather or horn was used for the jewellery.
