No the length of text is fine, I've seen way longer captions. The problem is that it's black against a gray background, so it gets tiring to read.

One way to make it easier to read is use different colors for when characters are speaking. Helps the reader differentiate between dialogue and text much more easily. Just don't use colors that are too bright or not visible against the background
