The eye effect was a total accident. It was a simple green and white spiral that rotates and fades in over the eyes. but it looked bad because of a limitation of rotation in the model. But then while working on new expressions I found that it wasn't a toggle but a opacity slider and having the spiral come in at half intensity resulted in this eye effect that actually does look good to me.
