Vex and Keyleth ran off and encountered Clarota, a mindflayer, in the mines of Kraghammer way early on in Campaign 1. I always thought Matt was very forgiving in letting them recruit him instead of having him attack. Not sure they would have made it out, and then this would have been a reality.
