Girl-cub just doesn't logically follow in any sense. If the Man in Man-cub refers to humanity, then Shanti would be a Man-cub too. If man-cub means "Younger Version of Man", then wouldn't Shanti be a "woman-cub"?

Honestly, I suspect the term was made to make straight Kaa fetishists (or those who prefer female subjects) less gay by using non-masculine terms.
