You ever think how weird it is Shanti is always "girl-cub"? Why isn't Mowgli a boy-cub? Did they use girl-cub in JB2? I legit can't remember.

Girl-cub just doesn't logically follow in any sense. If the Man in Man-cub refers to humanity, then Shanti would be a Man-cub too. If man-cub means "Younger Version of Man", then wouldn't Shanti be a "woman-cub"?

Girl-cub. It annoys me.

"Woman-cub" is just a bit too cumbersome and clunky with the extra syllable. Girl-cub is fine.

I think girl-cub has been used once or twice in the comics or games, but not in the movies. When you think about it, it really is stupid because there is really only one mancub: Mowgli, who was raised by the wolves. Shanti is just a regular human girl, not a cub from the jungle.

I hope there's more of this! Used to love the picture books providing alternate views of the classic encounters and having Shanti in Mowgli's place makes it all the better.

Honestly, I suspect the term was made to make straight Kaa fetishists (or those who prefer female subjects) less gay by using non-masculine terms.

I think girl-cub has been used once or twice in the comics or games, but not in the movies.


If you ever do find such an example, I'd love to see it.

@Dialog2, if you head over to Tarolewd's twitter and visit his Github, theres a page about a 1990 Jungle Book comic. The final chapter includes the phrase "girl-cub."
