Jesters served as entertainment to kings/nobility, stack that dynamic with mind control and you have an amazing combo.
It also immediately brings to mind a, in my opinion at least, lesser version in the form of clownification. (Clowns have too much of a soft horror/creepy going for them)
So it is not only just good, it reminds you that it is better than its closest peer
