Okay, I only remember a little bit from my karate days, but what's with green-belt over there getting a black robe? I thought green was pretty far down the totem pole.

Maybe it's for competitions. At least in competitive judo the contestants use different colored gi so people can easily tell them apart. Sure, karate doesn't seem to have that rule, but I've seen karatekas with black gi pants, so these things aren't necessarily set in stone.

well i take taekwondo and you can get a blue gi for joining the black belt club and once you get your black belt you can get a white gi with black striping on it plus it goes. white,yellow,orange,green,purple,blue,red,black Tip, bo-dan(white and black stripe) then black o yeah
