despite the games themselves being kinda shit, the designs are still top noch.

@Mass They're not shit. The technical issues aside, gen 9 is the best gen since gen 5 in terms of writing/lore/mechanics/gameplay/exploration. It's just that execs screwed SV by not letting it cook in QA for another 6-8 months.

@TamamoHusbando

Each one have their opinions, but I don't think it have the best in these things, specially exploration. I feel the previous games have better explorations than this one.
All the open world thing is just fake when you still need to follow certain order.

I'm also on the camp that if you can overlook the technical issues these are the best games since gen 5 in pretty much every aspect.
I don't know how someone can say with a straight face any of the previous 3D games has better exploration when this game has actual caves and mountains again.
And I don't really mind open world with fixed levels, but I get why people complain about it. But I'm also not super into open worlds so following an order of gyms/titans/etc was fine by me. The more wide areas to explore (many with some verticality to them) instead of routes that in the past few games had become literal straight lines still qualify as better exploration regardless.

And that's just traversal. Character writing, story pacing (something another game with good chracters, Sun/Moon, struggled with), even dificulty, particularly in the DLC stuff, is a cut above anything else in the series for me.
The one thing I can fault these games for besides the technical mess they are is the lack of a battle facility, but other than that it does basically everything right for the first time in over a decade.
