why not plug in a webcam and write some image detection code so it can know when the victim's eyes start going all spiral-y and immediately stop the hypnosis/end the app's process?

Duleg: Katie is very intelligent but also kinda dumb when it comes to taking precautions and not walking into obvious traps (High Int. Low Wis)

There's a scene in the book Authority where a character sets up an airhorn on a timer to snap him back when he's worried about being hypnotised. I think I'd go for that solution

maybe an airhorn and showing a "are you still there?" message where if you click 5 times it starts the hypnosis again?
