I love your work, PenKen, but unfortunately I don't agree with ArtistWelfare.com.

Also I'm poor, which has something to do with the issue.

If you get things back, it really isn't welfare.

Problem is it's like Kickstarter. A good concept but it's easy to abuse. Already my friends have been burned by donating to artists only to get nothing back as said artist doesn't do anything now that others are paying his bills.

Personal experience and my close friends getting scammed by less-than-reputable "artists" gives me a very dim view of crowdfunding.

But if you don't make art, then your patrons would get upset, and un-pledge. Thus causing a drop in income. Just getting pledges doesn't mean you can sit back and enjoy the easy life.

Though, personally i prefer the "Per creation" style of Patreon campaign. With that campaign type, patrons only get charged when the artist actually makes what they promised to make (and only up to the patron's monthly limit)

The only problem with that type of campaign as far as I can see is that it can be hard to estimate what to put for milestones as 25 people pledging 1 dollar with a 5 dollar cap is WAY different than 1 person pledging 25 dollars with a 25 dollar cap. So, I can understand why some artists don't want to use that kind of campaign.
