Yeah, no. Sorry Grim, but I'm re-adding the nightmare fuel tag to pretty much the majority of this pool.

I know it's a subjective tag and you may not agree, but I think this deserves it.

I really feel this isn't actually horrific - nightmare fuel is for things like "this guy is eviscerated and the monster bathes in his blood" or "a parasite is crawling through my body, eating my organs and replacing them with a fungus" - ie, things that really make people go *squick*

this comic doesn't really go beyond camp levels horror - take out the nudity, and it could be a corruption scene in a children's show; sharp teeth, evil eyes and smiles, and even the transformation to robot catgirl, are not enough to warrant nightmare fuel

You see, I disagree with that reasoning. My own reasoning is based on prior works that have also been tagged nightmare_fuel. This ticks a lot of marks when compared to other nightmare_fuel works.

If <<hypnohub.net/post/show/37...ttomless-brown_hair-empty|this>>, <<hypnohub.net/post/show/12...-happy_trance-kaa_eyes-ma|this>>, and <<hypnohub.net/post/show/18...et-femdom-hypnotic_feet-l|this>> count as nightmare fuel (no parasites, no evisceration, nothing you said. Especially the clown pic, which to me seems even tamer than this) then so do the parts of this I just re-tagged.

Also half-melted androids do make one think "melting body" and the latter would count as nightmare fuel even to your standards.

I agree that those pics don't seem like they should have nightmare_fuel .... there is a sort of "I must scream but have no mouth" quality to the eyes of the subs, and an a higher level of realism of the art which might make it more real, but yeah, I suppose I also disagree with those pics carrying the tag

....but this wouldn't be the first time I'm disagreed with tag meaning and/or implementation, but that's just my problem to deal with

I don't think xj9 in melting with that pink stuff - I saw it as a transformative slime, most likely originating sunset mangle's mouth, as we see the same pink stuff there, seemingly spattering onto xj9 - unless there's something I'm missing indicating melting?

It's the pic right after the Sunset Mangle, with her metal skeleton partly exposed (more specifically her leg). Looking back I do agree it's not strictly "melting", but it does still carry exposed-skeleton connotations.

Clearly we need a plenary session on what constitutes Nightmare Fuel.

Now i understand why TVTropes takes this stuff so seriously.

Maybe seperate 'Nightmare Fuel', keep it for the spooky stuff but have a 'High Octane Nightmare Fuel' for the really messed up?

That only makes the problem worse, because how do you separate regular "spooky stuff" from "High Octane Nightmare Fuel"? Where do you draw the line?

I kind of agree with Ogodei-Khan on this one - we may actually need to have a good discussion on what is and isn't nightmare fuel, to make it non-subjective for the future.

Ah, since it looks more like the 5 nights at Freddy's stuff, I took that as a hardware transformation, rather then stripped down hardware, thus why I also included robotization even though she is already a robot .... I could wrong of course

There's no way to make nightmare fuel *not* a subjective matter. Still, for a story like this one that builds on the themes of a creepy/horror game franchise, especially with a story that uses the creepy-horror aspects of that franchise, it's more than fair to recognize that this could be nightmare fuel for several reasons:

* Animatronic Characters sort of fall into the "creepy doll" and "clown" categories. Some children dislike these things intensely for various reasons, and some of them carry this revulsion into adulthood.

* Dismemberment/Limb Replacement is also a strong candidate, in my eyes, for being likely to trigger nightmare fuel for a lot of people. Even if this is a robot character with interchangeable parts, it is not played as a routine, benign, or pleasant thing for Jenny in this series.

* Combining all the above, awareness of the changes. I would say the final sequence does not show a happy Jenny, but a trapped and upset Jenny who can't fight her programming... She has no mouth to speak her mind.

While any one of these elements might be able to stand alone in the right context without being Nightmare Fuel, combining all of them in the manner which this series does certainly supports the idea that someone seeing this series might end up having nightmares, and not necessarily because of what it shows, but *how* it shows those things.
