Long story short, a woman is abducted by a massive alien organism called a Hiveship that brainwashes her into becoming part of it's eusocial internal colony.

It's a hivemind control/collective story. Kinda like the Borg but with sex bugs, or with how the Zerg infect Terrans but in a much nicer and again sexier way. It's overtly complicated and is a kind of mind control that only appeals to certain people.

Synapses are the civilian counterparts to the Gladiatrices. Before their conversion, these Hivedaughters were managerial and logistical experts. While some Synapses are specialized in STEM fields and studies, most of those duties are delegated to either Neuropaths or Workers with knowledge in the subject. For the most part, Synapses tend to the day to day running of the Hiveship, assigning workers their tasks, prioritizing biological functions, and other such activities so that the Hiveship consciousness is free to deal with more important matters.

The Synapse symbiant houses thousands of neurotendrils used to patch into the Dreamweb, other Hivedaughters, or with the Hiveship herself. Apart from this main function, Synapse symbiants are also heavily armored on par with the basic Gladiatrix symbiant configuration and may use their neurotendrils and a psionic pulse as a last resort if faced with combat. There is usually little variation between Synapse symbiants as their functions are primarily relegated to the confines of the Hiveship.
