Long story short, a woman is abducted by a massive alien organism called a Hiveship that brainwashes her into becoming part of it's eusocial internal colony.

Neophiles are still under the direct control of Neuropaths until after their sorting. Through the Dreamweb, the sleeping bodies of the Neophiles are given commands processed through countless simulations within Synapses, Neuropaths, and Workers as well as the memories of the Hiveship to send perfect electrical signals to induce the favored action. In this way Neophiles can be kept asleep while still going through the motions of walking to their processing chamber or, in the case of this particular Neophile, removing her Analysis Tendril so that Workers and other handlers may decide what role is best suited for future life as a Hivedaughter.
