It's not necessary that you do anything you're not comfortable with. Unless of course, you have been mind controlled to do it. In which case, there is no choice anyway.

I for one like doing the more "mainstream" manips just as much as the dirtier and the more feedback I get, the likelier it is that I do more of the kind.

Comfort is relative. It's more that there are lines drawn by society (even here in the parts of the internet given over to fetishists like ourselves) and crossing them affects perceptions.

Is crossing that line worth it? Dunno. The payoff would be pretty hot, though. And history shows that the safest wager is betting on guys doing what their dicks tell them to do.
