I think the joke is that the hunter in question will use no other armor aside from the kirin armor, and if its unnattainable to them in their..... less then capable state, they will simply walk around with just the horn on.

In the older Monster Hunter games Kirin armor was very skimpy and as a result one of the most popular female armor sets (they have changed it's design as of 4 and it's not as popular anymore), so a LOT of people would play female hunters and wear Kirin armor exclusively.

Actually the "Skimpy" design is still available, it's just a lower rank armor now and thus not viable at the end game.

Now if armor made out of Gore Magala wasn't so popular in the low rank hunter groups, my hide wouldn't be in so much danger.
