just like how the heck Digimon with it's more diverse plotline and whole new character set loses to Pokemon and its repetitive plotline and lack of character aging

Got to hand it to him, though, he's got a point.

Digimon stayed interesting all the way through because they let characters develop, had the story progress, and when the story and characters had reached the logical conclusion of their arc, they ended it and started anew in a new world with new characters. Pokemon, or at least the anime, is fundamentally stagnant.

Which is extra depressing because there's so much wasted potential. Even looking at the various games and spin-offs in the series, there are so many great possibilities. A renegade anti-hero who battles pokemon thieves from the wrong side of the law! A child who is magically transformed into a pokemon and must live among them and learn their ways! And I would KILL for an anime based on Magical Pokemon Journey.

I know right, I'd freaking love to see Special/Adventures get the anime treatment. That shit's so good...
